Life, The Public Broadcast System
- In April 2001, several members of A
Real Read were seen in the pilot episode of Kevin's
Room on shown in prime-time on WPWR Channel 50. Kevin's
Room is a 60 minute drama that explores issues such as Gay
relationships, HIV testing, HIV drug adherence, and sexual risk
taking in the lives of African American Gay men. The film
addresses cultural and community barriers which may contribute to
poor health outcomes for Gay men, including coming out, family
shame and religious issues. Kevin's Room is a coproduction
of the Chicago Department of Public Health and Black
Cat Productions. Sharon Zurek served as the Producer and
Director of Kevin's Room. This film is an official entry in
the 2001
New York Lesbian & Gay Film Festival and the 25th
San Francisco
International Lesbian
